In the US state of Mississippi a school prevented a girl from taking her girlfriend to the prom, instead they were told they had to arrive separately.
Quote:
"The ACLU wants Itawamba County School District officials in Fulton, Mississippi
to reverse their decision to forbid a lesbian student from attending prom with
her girlfriend and from wearing a tuxedo to the prom. Constance McMillen, a
student at Itawamba Agricultural High School, came to the ACLU for help after
school officials told her that she could not come to prom with her girlfriend,
also a student at IAHS, and that if they arrived separately but slow-danced
together they might be thrown out."

For whatever reasons that the school made that decision, be it based on their traditional religious beliefs, how they were raised or for any other reason I hope that someone is reprimanded for this. Not necessarily fired because I am not sure that's necessary, but reprimanded.
Or perhaps some guidelines for schools set out by the government to stop cases like this happening more often as it's entirely unncesessary and all it does is give the school and all people concered a bad repuation.
She's also released a video thanking people for support:
