Angie Jackson Live-Tweets Her Abortion on Twitter

http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/angie-jackson-live-tweets-abortion/story?id=9937689&page=1

"But Jackson, who said she's always spoken about controversial topics online -- she is a self-professed atheist who says she grew up in a fundamentalist cult and survived sexual abuse -- never expected her abortion tweets to garner such attention.

"I don't feel like I'm doing anything different from what I do every day," said Jackson. "But now I have people calling me a killer; it's surreal."

So despite the fact she publicly admitted to having a procedure that is still very much in debate, very much a hot topic, and very much controversial especially in America, where there are still a lot of people who feel very strongly about it one way or another, she thinks it's surreal and is surprised that some people are reacting the way they are?

Either she is a fool, misguided, or just very stupid. What was she expecting, a round of applause?

I am still very much on the fence about abortion and I think I will be still for some time, however as I said there are many who are not and who actively express their feelings especially in America. If you openly admit on somewhere very public like Twitter how can you not expect some backlash and critique?

In some way's she just brought it on herself.
That may sound harsh and unfair, however the reality of it is that she could have kept this quiet and to herself but she chose not to.

Sacre bleu!

HSBC boss Michael Geoghegan gives £4m bonus to charity

http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/banking_and_finance/article7043878.ece

"MICHAEL GEOGHEGAN, the chief executive of HSBC, has turned down the chance to become Britain’s best-paid bank boss by handing a multi-million-pound bonus to charity.

He is in line for a payout of close to £4m after HSBC’s strong performance. This week it is expected to report annual profits of £10 billion.

Rather than give up the bonus, Geoghegan plans to pass it on to a number of children’s charities. The move follows public protests over payments to Britain’s bank bosses.

Stephen Hester, the chief executive of Royal Bank of Scotland, gave up his right to a £1.6m bonus last week in an effort to appease public anger.

Eric Daniels, the chief executive of Lloyds Banking Group, was offered a £2.25m bonus by his board — but also chose to turn it down.

Hester and Daniels were deemed to have earned the payments in spite of huge losses racked up by their banks.

Peter Sands, the chief executive of Standard Chartered, is believed to be getting a bonus of more than £1m. It appears that the former McKinsey consultant, who helped to mastermind the RBS and Lloyds bailouts, plans to accept the payout. Standard Chartered, which specialises in Africa and Asia, has few UK operations.

Geoghegan’s decision comes after a long wrangle with shareholders over pay."

Well isn't that nice of them, however I can't help but think that this was one of those "jump before their pushed" moments. With all the public outrage lately at bonuses and fiddling with expenses by bankers as well as MP's.

Maybe they wanted to try and show some redemption or maybe they were just trying to win back some support however minimal it might be.

The skeptical side of me says that although each of these people may be giving substantial amounts to charity they still not only accept their high salary but then might believe it is acceptable to receive a similiar bonus later and accept it, after all they donated their last one to charity right?

This was a nice gesture but such an action will either be a one time only occurrence or a rarity.

The Falklands row

Here is my input on the Falklands row and Argentina's claim to the Falklands.

First read this link

http://conservativehome.blogs.com/centreright/2010/02/oil-the-falkland-islands-and-international-law.html

Quote:

"The continental shelf of a coastal State comprises the seabed and subsoil of the submarine areas that extend beyond its territorial sea throughout the natural prolongation of its land territory to the outer edge of the continental margin, or to a distance of 200 nautical miles[/B] from the baselines from which the breadth of the territorial sea is measured where the outer edge of the continental margin does not extend up to that distance"

It is worth noting, at this juncture, that the point of the Falkland Islands closest to Argentina lies some 300 miles (480 kilometres) from its coastline. "

And:

"Article 77, points one and four address the rights of Britain to drill for oil more closely:

"The coastal State exercises over the continental shelf sovereign rights for the purpose of exploring it and exploiting its natural resources... The natural resources referred to in this Part consist of the mineral and other non-living resources of the seabed and subsoil together with living organisms belonging to sedentary species, that is to say, organisms which, at the harvestable stage, either are immobile on or under the seabed or are unable to move except in constant physical contact with the seabed or the subsoil"

Article 81 continues:

"The coastal State shall have the exclusive right to authorize and regulate drilling on the continental shelf for all purposes"

This indicates Britain is well within it's rights.

I would like to point out that the mere geographical position of an island or group of islands does not mean that the mainland country nearest has more claim than another country.

Otherwise the French would be able to claim the Channel Islands.

I would also like to point out that at first when Argentina owned the Falklands it was whilst they were still under Spanish rule. They continued to hold it for a little while after their independence until the British regained control.

It is said it was discovered by John Strong, captain of the Welfare, in January 1690.
That along with the fact that technically Argentina didn't run it at first, Spain did using Argentina as their puppets, I doesn't see how Argentina can justify their claim to these islands.

Whilst it's true that international law might not officially acknowledge British sovereignty, Argentina does not have a credible claim to the islands.

Bedfordshire lagoon murder victim 'tortured for cash'

These days it takes a lot to shock people, to make them stop and reflect with horror on a situation.

One such incident was the Baby P incident where an innocent child was ruthlessly beaten, tortured, and then murdered.
Another example before that is the murder of Jamie Bulger, the toddler who was abducted by two boys no more than eleven years old, tortured and then murdered.

And now we have another example.

Last May the body of 27 year old Michael Gilbert was found. It was severely dismembered and an autopsy showed that before his gruesome death the victim had suffered years of abuse.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/beds/bucks/herts/8530096.stm

This is harrowing to even consider and come to terms with. The idea of being forced to sleep chained to a radiator is disturbing. As is the thought that to even consider escape would lead to more severe beatings and abuse.

To die and succumb to death is one thing, but to do so in a slow and painful manner at the hands of people who have no mercy or remorse is perhaps even more terrifying.

The Accused:

- The Watts brothers of Chertsey close, Luton are accused of murder.

- Their father Antonio Watt is accused familial homicide and perverting the course of justice.

- Their mother, Jennifer Smith-Dennis, is charged with familial homicide and two counts of perverting the course of justice.

- Nichola Roberts, 21, of Burfold Close, Luton, the girlfriend of the accused men's brother, Richard Watt, is charged with murder, familial homicide and perverting the course of justice.

- Natasha Oldfield, 29, of Chertsey Close, who is the girlfriend of James Watt, faces the same charges as Ms Roberts.

Of course all of these people are innocent until proven guilty and I will not be one to caste blame, however that is six people in the docks accused of this man's gruesome murder. That's six people who conspired to send this man to his death in the most inhumane way.

I sincerly hope for the sake of Mr Gilbert that the guilty person, or people, are brought to justice and given what can only be a life sentence and nothing less.

Rest in peace Mr Gilbert.

Gordon Brown and the "bullygate" scandal.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8529626.stm

Basically an anti-Bullying helpline said some people who worked for Gordon Brown had contacted them and now a huge furor has begun.

And the head of the anti-bullying line has come under a lot of critisism and some patrons and leading supporters of the anti-bullying campaign have pulled out.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8531377.stm]Publicity leech Christine Pratt, chief executive of the National Bullying Helpline

Then Phil Woolas, MP for Oldham East and Saddleworth, Immigration minister and all round idiot and hypocrite wades into the topic by critisizing Christine Pratt:

I must say this is all rather entertaining.

And of course it goes without saying that that Tories are rubbing their hands in glee at this because it is yet more ammunition for them to sling in the direction of New Labour.

All this on accusations. It hasn't even been proven yet.

Thieving MP's refuse to pay back money

Oxford student: 'I didn't mean 'Kill the Jews'

OK so now my bullshit alarm is ringing like crazy.

Israeli minister Danny Ayalon was visiting St Edmund’s Hall, a college in the city of Oxford.
Several eye witnesses have Noor Rashid down as saying (or rather shouting) “Itbah Al-Yahud” which is an Arabic phrase meaning “Slaughter the Jews”.

However Mr Rashid then replied that he had been misheard and instead had shouted “Khaybar ya Yahod” however that really isn't much better because “Khaybar ya Yahod” is:

"a classic Arabic battle cry referring to a seventh-century attack by Mohammed on the Jewish community in Khaybar where the Jews were conquered and made to pay half of their income to the Muslim population. "

According to this article: http://www.thejc.com/news/uk-news/27084/oxford-student-i-didnt-mean-kill-jews

So he wasn't trying to say "slaughter the Jews" but he was giving a battle cry used when conquering the Jews and somehow that's not quite as bad? Hmmmm.

It's hardly better, but I guess by changing it to something only slightly less subtle perhaps he hopes to come across as just someone who is anti-Semitic and not a potential terrorist.

Nevertheless the phrase that he suggested he said isn't that much better or indeed subtle.

I am not sure I have much more to say on this. It pretty much speaks for itself.
A police investigation is continuing, I hope they drag him over the coals. (Not literally. Actually come back to me on that one.)

P.S The Israeli Minister involved wishes to press charges.

Families of dead soldiers call for private meeting with Tony Blair

In other news, the families of soldiers killed in Iraq are hoping to get an audience with his holiness Tony Blair.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/politics/defence/7067197/Iraq-inquiries-families-of-dead-soldiers-call-for-private-meeting-with-Tony-Blair.html

Notable, but whether they will be successful is another thing.
Tony Blair is a slippery character, (and who could be surprised as he trained as a lawyer.) No doubt he will try and find some way to weasel out of it and avoid them like the coward that he is. And if by some miracle he did confront them then I can imagine he will remain as ignorant as he always is.

Good luck to the families though.
May justice be done!

70 year gag put on vital evidence on the Dr Kelly

The klaxons are ringing on my conspiracy alarm!!!

Ok so I don't really have a "conspiracy alarm" as such, and if I did have one it wouldn't really go off very frequently. Whenever someone claims there is a conspiracy or cover up I scoff and scorn and all too often label them as members of the tin foil hat wearing society.

However this time I think something really does stink, because clearly there is information that is not only vital for a family who are still looking for answers, but the public too.

Since the Chilcot inquiry is in full swing and all sorts of questions are being asked it is no surprise that there are some who wish to suppress the truth. As they said in the "The X Files" the truth is out there, but getting to it is hardly ever a straight path.

Obviously at some point the inquiry and whoever was investigating and trying to put the pieces together got terribly close because now it seems Lord Hutton who chaired the first inquiry has put on a gag on medical records which include a postmortem on Dr David Kelly.

How long for you ask? was it for a decade, two decades, three perhaps? Nope, seven, I say again seven decades. I imagine they chose seven decades in the hope that whoever is asking the tough questions now will be dead in seventy years (with a bit of luck) and in seventy years there won't be anyone to ask tough questions.

Well hopefully I will still be around in seventy years time, (although I will be in my early nineties) and I will hope to live to see the day that justice is done. No doubt by the time a decision is made all those who were responsible will be long dead and will have lived a comfortable retirement. Some might have even tried to gain immunity through some elaborate deal.

I would very much like to see Lord Hutton in the spot light explaining his actions, and grilled (preferably by Jeremy Paxman) to no end.

Of course I imagine when that happens it won't be front page as the front page story will be "Hell Freezes Over!"

If you walk in the park, you are a pedophile

This is not a joke.

If an adult (most probably male) is walking in the park in Telford Town, and has not got a child with them, they can be and are more likely to be stopped and questioned by members of the local council. If the council official is suspicious they can have the people "escorted" out of the park and banned from entering in the future.

A bit extreme don't you think? They don't think so. In fact despite being told even by the Home Office that they are over stepping the mark, the council remain adamant that they are doing right in order to protect children.

A prime example is when two environmental campaigners were in the park dressed as penguins. They were distributing leaflets on climate change when they were challenged by council officials who claimed they (the environmental campaigners) had not completed a risk assessment or a criminal records check, a process that is used to stop pedophiles from working with or being close to children.
So the enviromental campaigners were "escorted out."

When the campaigners complained to the council, a response by letter said:

"Our town park staff approach adults that are not associated with any children in the town park and request that the request the reason for them being there. This is a child safety precautionary measure.

After the Home office warned the council that they were perhaps over stepping the mark, a spokesman said:
"We do reserve the right to ask people what they are doing in the park. Otherwise it is a free-for-all where they can come and do what they want. "

Is it just me or is this country becoming more and more Orwellian? This is just yet another case in a long line of preposterous examples of how the government and local government are severely over stepping the mark in a crazed bid to secure the safety of themselves and the people around them. It comes across as if the world is going to end tomorrow, and if the government doesn't wrap us all up in cotton and put safety warnings on everything, then we are going to do ourselves harm. Its almost as if we are children and we can't do anything without them looking over our shoulders to make sure we are alright. It also shows that they obviously don't trust us with anything anymore.

Whilst reading the newspaper not to long ago, I noticed a letter by someone who said they had recently been to Eastern Europe. In this letter the person stated that in the older parts of the cities, the streets were still paved with cobbled stones and as a result the road was uneven.
And yet there were no signs warning people of this to cover the backsides of the government in case someone tripped over and hurt themselves. Do you know why? Because its common sense.
Common sense dictates thats you keep your eyes and ears open at all times and if you have disabilities then you have someone do it for you. You stay aware of your surroundings and if something happens like you trip then its most likely your fault not the local councils.

This country we live in is being driven to the brink by health and safety madness and political correctness idiots.

We need to change or else this country will implode. Short of that all the British people will just pick up their belongings and leave. Lord knows quite a few people are doing that already.

I hope people keep their senses.

Thats all from me, until next time, adious folks

The overuse of words like "Heroism" and "Brave."

I find these days some words are used in ways they wouldn't have been sixty years ago. This might be because we tend to exaggerate. There are certain words that are thrown around and used to much, for whatever reason. This is done mostly by the media, but is also done by members of the public who believe what they read. Sadly sometimes these people are in positions of authority.

Heroic people: Some prime examples might be soldiers serving in a conflict, more specifically those who have done amazing acts under fire and pressure and in the threat of death. Others might include first aid workers, search and rescue teams, charities, or even people renowned throughout history like Mother Teresa, or Florence Nightingale.

These are all groups of people who have gone out of their way to help others, and they can be described using these words.

In the last few years that these words have been used for other people too. This has included sports players, or so called "celebrities." Well this annoys me immensely.

When a football (soccer) player for example makes a run up a field past a few opposition players, the commentator might offhandedly use the word "brave" to describe him or a commentator might describe a winning side as "heroic."

Now I understand that there are many types of heroism and bravery, but I'm afraid I don't see any type of bravery in sports. Although there are many words to describe many sports, "heroism" is one of them.

The words in particular words that are often thrown around and used often are the words "brave" and "heroic" as well as any other word that might be associated. These are words that are meant to describe people who have done something extraordinary that no ordinary person might be able to accomplish. So quite why newspapers and those incredibly stupid gossip magazines that people read uses those words occasionally to describe "celebrities" is beyond me.

I wrote that word in such a way because the celebrity culture that is upon this country at the moment is dismal, pathetic, boring, and worrying to pick but a few words. The idea that someone can become famous by doing the simplest of things, or sleeping with someone, or being on a TV show. These people become idols to airheads even though they appear to have no talent at anything whatsoever.

Yet somehow they manage to gather a following not just from the media but members of the public who are fanning the flames just by acknowledging their existence.

Then whenever one of these fake tanned idiots falls off the wagon because they ate a tub of ice cream and felt fat they check themselves into rehab claiming 'exhaustion.' That's right, because their life is clearly that hectic.

Then when they re-appear they are hailed by the pin heads who run these gossip mags as "brave" because they shunned their footballer husband and took on their weight problems head on.

Oh my hero.

And now they have double page spreads about them in magazines. Its all rather pathetic.

Then before you know it they have their own TV show but before they can complete the series they start drinking, or do drugs, or they drop a glass whilst washing up and they have to go to rehab.

Anyway so they spend two weeks in rehab, lose some weight and release a fitness video and the media have the nerve to describe them as "brave?"

Brave? They're not brave, just another talentless idiot that for some reason had a bit of limelight and now they are milking it for all it's worth.

Then they get interviewed by magazines who offer them thousands of pounds for their life story even though they are in their mid-twenties.

Meanwhile the real heroes are out there in the real world earning pittance or hardly anything, feigning recognition and yet they are changing lives and making people happy through their work.

I wonder if the idiots who throw these words around have even watched television program's like "The Secret Millionaire" where so often we see people who for no extra money spend their extra time doing community work. They work long tireless hours.

It annoys me to high heaven how these days the media have gotten completely the wrong end of the stick. Because of them and their misrepresentation the real heroes go unnoticed and some idiot gets on TV for doing little.

Its pathetic.

And everyone now finds it acceptable to use the word "heroic" and "brave" for anything and anyone.

There are so many other words that are also commonly misused.

Ignorance is bliss.
